VA Tech WABAG Secures Large BWSSB Order

The domestic contract covers the Design, Build and Operate (DBO) of a 100 MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and a 25 MLD Tertiary Treatment Plant (TTP) at Byramangala, along with a 60 MLD STP at Bellandur. The company had earlier executed the first phase of the Bellandur project and has now secured the second phase.

The scope of work includes Design, Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPC) of the treatment plants along with biogas-based captive power generation. The sewage treatment plants will use the Activated Sludge Process integrated with a Biological Nutrient Removal system, while the tertiary treatment plant at Byramangala will deploy Ultrafiltration technology to produce high-quality treated water suitable for distribution to nearby water bodies.

The EPC phase is expected to be completed within 36 months, followed by a seven-year Operations and Maintenance (O&M) period during which the company will be responsible for the efficient operation of the facilities.

Sustainable Infrastructure Focus

The projects are aimed at strengthening Bengaluru's wastewater treatment infrastructure while supporting water reuse and environmental sustainability. The facilities will incorporate anaerobic sludge digestion integrated with biogas-based captive power generation, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower energy consumption and improve resource recovery.

The order also includes process engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation and control systems, building services and long-term operations and maintenance. The company clarified that the contract does not involve any related-party transactions and that neither the promoter nor the promoter group has any interest in the awarding authority.

Commenting on the order wins, S. Natrajan, Vice President & Head – Sales and Marketing, India Cluster, said the twin orders from BWSSB reinforce WABAG's leadership in India's municipal wastewater treatment sector and reflect the company's commitment to delivering sustainable, resilient and future-ready water infrastructure. He added that the energy-efficient wastewater treatment facilities, integrated with biogas-based power generation, will serve as a scalable model for resource recovery, circularity and energy optimisation while significantly enhancing Bengaluru's sewage treatment capacity. According to him, the projects will promote environmentally responsible wastewater management, support Karnataka's water security objectives and strengthen the long-term sustainability and resilience of the city's water ecosystem.
