Investment View and Key Drivers

In its November 6, 2026 Q2FY27 result update on Britannia Industries, Prabhudas Lilladher retained its BUY recommendation. The broker sees a positive demand environment, supported by 13 per cent volume growth in Q2FY27, traction from innovation and new launches, recovery in international operations, and faster expansion in modern trade, e-commerce and quick commerce.

Modern trade, e-commerce and quick commerce together account for about 7 per cent of sales and grew at 1.8 times the rate of general trade.

Q2FY27 Financial Performance

Britannia Industries reported consolidated Q2FY27 revenue of Rs 5,598 crore, up 15.6 per cent YoY and 3.3 per cent above Prabhudas Lilladher's estimate. Volume growth was about 13 per cent. Gross profit rose 10.0 per cent YoY to Rs 2,220 crore, but gross margin contracted by 203 basis points YoY to 39.6 per cent because of broad-based raw-material inflation.

Consolidated Q2FY27 metric Reported YoY change Versus estimate
Revenue Rs 5,598 crore 15.6% increase 3.3% above estimate
Volume growth About 13% — —
Gross profit Rs 2,220 crore 10.0% increase —
Gross margin 39.6% Down 203 bps —
EBITDA Rs 1,022 crore 7.0% increase 5.9% above estimate
EBITDA margin 18.3% Down 147 bps 50 bps ahead of estimate
Adjusted PAT Rs 729 crore 10.8% increase 5.3% above estimate

Standalone Q2FY27 sales rose 15.9 per cent YoY to around Rs 5,400 crore. Standalone gross margin declined by 201 basis points YoY to 37.9 per cent, while EBITDA increased 8.1 per cent YoY to around Rs 990 crore. Profitability exceeded estimates despite raw-material pressure, partly because other expenses were lower than expected.

Business Momentum and New Launches

Management said all key heavyweight states delivered positive growth, while other states continued to grow faster. The adjacent bakery business grew more than 20 per cent, led by brownies and other high-growth products.

International business recovered to double-digit growth in the Middle East and Africa as well as other overseas markets after disruption in the previous quarter. Britannia also launched Korean Chilli and Cheese Herb flavoured cheese slices, which saw encouraging initial traction.

Building Wealth Through Established Businesses

Large-cap companies often form the foundation of a resilient portfolio. DSIJ's Large Rhino focuses on fundamentally strong businesses selected through detailed research for long-term investors.

Commodity Inflation and Pricing Actions

The principal concern is elevated commodity inflation. Management indicated that inflation is likely to persist and that milk prices had not experienced their usual seasonal moderation before winter. Fuel costs eased sequentially as geopolitical pressure reduced, but remained substantially higher YoY.

Britannia implemented price increases of about 3.5 per cent during Q2FY27 and has further increases in the pipeline. Management acknowledged that current pricing has passed through only part of the cost increase and intends to bridge the remaining gap through subsequent price actions.

Earnings Outlook and Key Monitorables

Prabhudas Lilladher increased its FY28E and FY29E EPS estimates by 2.1 per cent and 3.9 per cent, respectively, reflecting healthy demand, pricing, innovation, international recovery and channel mix. It forecasts FY27 to FY29 EPS CAGR of 15.4 per cent.

The broker expects EBITDA margin to decline YoY in Q3FY27 because of a high base and sustained input-cost pressure. Its key monitorables are:

  • The extent and persistence of raw-material inflation.
  • Britannia's ability to execute further calibrated price increases.
  • The company's capacity to maintain demand momentum in an inflationary environment.

Valuation and Target Price

The target price was revised down to Rs 6,046 from Rs 6,579. Prabhudas Lilladher values Britannia Industries at 45 times September 2028 EPS, compared with its earlier valuation of 50 times FY28E EPS.

The broker notes that the stock trades at 32.6 times FY29E EPS, which it believes limits major downside. The long-term business moat remains supported by successful launches and healthy impulse-led adjacency demand across quick commerce and e-commerce.
