In its November 2, 2026 report on Goodluck India, ICICI Securities views the company’s move towards higher-value precision-engineered steel products and the planned integration of its defence business as the principal drivers of long-term value creation.
Goodluck India has evolved from a steel producer into a precision-engineered steel solutions provider. Value-added products account for 68 per cent of volume and 78 per cent of revenue. The core business has 5 lakh tonnes of installed capacity, which is being expanded to 6 lakh tonnes through debottlenecking over 12 to 16 months. Full utilisation is expected over the following one to two years.
ICICI Securities estimates standalone revenue and EBITDA CAGR of 19 per cent and 11 per cent, respectively, over FY26-28E.
Goodluck India reported Q2FY27 consolidated revenue of Rs 1,363 crore, up 38 per cent YoY and 6 per cent QoQ. Standalone sales volume rose 18 per cent YoY to around 1.33 lakh tonnes, while capacity utilisation improved to about 99 per cent from about 90 per cent in Q2FY26.
| Metric | Q2FY27 | Trend or comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Consolidated revenue | Rs 1,363 crore | Up 38 per cent YoY and 6 per cent QoQ |
| Standalone sales volume | Around 1.33 lakh tonnes | Up 18 per cent YoY |
| Standalone capacity utilisation | About 99 per cent | Up from about 90 per cent in Q2FY26 |
| Consolidated EBITDA | Rs 116 crore | Margin of 8.5 per cent |
| Standalone EBITDA per tonne | Rs 8,079 | Versus Rs 8,210 in Q1FY27 |
| Consolidated PAT | Rs 51 crore | Up 19 per cent YoY and down about 25 per cent QoQ |
Consolidated EBITDA margin declined by 195 basis points QoQ due to higher fuel and global freight costs. Consolidated PAT included other income of about Rs 11 crore.
The defence and aerospace business is central to the broker’s thesis. Q2FY27 defence revenue was nil because of delayed government approvals linked to geopolitical and other factors.
Goodluck Defence and Aerospace has commissioned capacity for 1.5 lakh 155 mm artillery shells annually and is expanding this to 4 lakh shells. Management has guided for peak revenue of about Rs 1,000 crore from the expanded shell capacity. It expects revenue from the Munitions India Ltd 155 mm shell opportunity in the later part of FY27, after Goodluck Defence and Aerospace emerged as the sole technically qualified bidder.
Management also expects defence revenue of Rs 300 crore and an EBITDA margin of 30-35 per cent in FY27. ICICI Securities estimates that the defence segment, including aerospace, could generate about Rs 600 crore of revenue and Rs 208 crore of EBITDA at about 35 per cent margin in FY28E.
The board has reiterated approval to amalgamate Goodluck Defence and Aerospace and Goodluck Green Energy into Goodluck India, with execution expected within 12 to 16 months. ICICI Securities considers this corporate action favourable because the listed entity would capture the defence business upside.
The broker’s estimates incorporate the defence business assuming the merger occurs at the latest equity-raise valuation. The merger swap ratio remains the key monitorable, and an adverse ratio is the principal identified risk.
Management retained FY27 guidance for revenue growth of about 15-20 per cent and EBITDA margin of 10-12 per cent. The guidance is supported by volume growth, capacity ramp-up, improving utilisation, infrastructure demand, exports and defence.
| Financial year | Consolidated revenue | Consolidated EBITDA | Consolidated PAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| FY27E | Rs 5,587 crore | Rs 530 crore | Rs 249 crore |
| FY28E | Rs 6,340 crore | Rs 659 crore | Rs 345 crore |
ICICI Securities maintains a HOLD rating and a target price of Rs 575 per share, based on a sum-of-the-parts valuation.
| Business | Valuation multiple | Target enterprise value |
|---|---|---|
| FY28E base business | 7.5 times EV/EBITDA | Rs 3,402 crore |
| Defence business | 20 times EV/EBITDA | Rs 4,165 crore |
After deducting net debt of Rs 1,035 crore, the valuation implies an equity value of Rs 6,532 crore and a value of Rs 575 per share.
