Investment View and Target Price

In its October 16, 2026 results update, ICICI Securities maintained its BUY recommendation on Orient Electric and raised its DCF-based target price to Rs 240 from Rs 220. The broker remains positive because premiumisation, product innovation and higher distribution productivity are supporting broad-based growth, while cost-rationalisation measures are helping profitability despite commodity inflation.

Q2FY27 Financial Performance

Orient Electric reported a strong Q2FY27. Revenue rose 25.2 per cent year on year to Rs 8,793 million, EBITDA increased 49.7 per cent to Rs 568 million and adjusted PAT rose 124.4 per cent to Rs 271 million. EBITDA margin expanded 110 basis points year on year to 6.5 per cent, aided by operating leverage, better product mix and cost rationalisation.

Q2FY27 metric Performance
Revenue Rs 8,793 million; up 25.2 per cent year on year
EBITDA Rs 568 million; up 49.7 per cent year on year
Adjusted PAT Rs 271 million; up 124.4 per cent year on year
EBITDA margin 6.5 per cent; up 110 basis points year on year
Gross margin Down 251 basis points because of commodity inflation

Gross margin nevertheless contracted 251 basis points because of commodity inflation. Other income increased 56.8 per cent year on year and also supported PAT margins. The report does not state whether the quarterly result beat, met or missed broker estimates.

Electrical Consumer Durables Growth

In the electrical consumer durables business, fan revenue registered high double-digit growth and outperformed the industry, supporting market-share gains. Premium products formed about 40 per cent of fan revenue, new product launches contributed more than 30 per cent, and BLDC fans grew about 26 per cent year on year to account for around 30 per cent of Orient Electric's ceiling-fan portfolio.

Appliances also delivered double-digit growth, led by water heaters and garment-care products. ICICI Securities believes the combination of volume-led growth and calibrated price increases indicates improving brand preference and execution.

Premiumisation and Distribution Trends

Lighting also continued to premiumise. High-value luminaires represented 66 per cent of the lighting mix, while professional lighting grew at a high single-digit rate, supported by a healthy enquiry pipeline and new product development.

Wires revenue more than doubled year on year, while switches and switchgear posted high double-digit growth. Management noted that about 45 per cent of fan-selling outlets also sell wires, creating a distribution advantage. E-commerce grew at a high double-digit rate and quick commerce nearly doubled year on year, contributing about 15 per cent of digital revenue.

Management Initiatives and Margin Outlook

Management expanded the direct-to-market model into Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and added around 3,000 to 4,000 outlets to the fan distribution network. Management said new products contribute around 500 to 600 basis points more to revenue in direct-to-market territories than in the overall business, while such markets are margin accretive.

Project Sanchay delivered savings of about Rs 130 million in Q2FY27 and Rs 230 million in H1FY27. Management implemented further price rises across categories, but estimated that pricing covered only about 80 per cent of inflation in fans and appliances.

Management reiterated a long-term gross-margin aspiration of about 32 per cent and a double-digit EBITDA-margin aspiration. Higher utilisation at the Hyderabad facility could add about 20 to 30 basis points to margins at steady state if inflation does not absorb the benefit. Working-capital days increased to 34 days, partly due to the shift from master-distributor-led sales to direct-to-market sales.
