Infosys Expands in Mohali: Boosting Jobs and Innovation in North India

Infosys, a global name in digital services, has officially started work on expanding its Development Center in Mohali. The project started with a special ceremony attended by the Chief Minister of Punjab, S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, and Cabinet Minister Shri. Sanjeev Arora. This move is part of the company’s plan to grow its presence in North India while supporting the local economy and creating new opportunities for tech talent in Punjab.

The expansion will feature a massive new software development building and modern facilities, covering about 350,000 square feet. This new space is designed to house around 3,000 employees. The goal is to give the team more room to develop advanced technology, specifically focusing on building artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for large businesses worldwide.

During the event, top Infosys leaders, including CFO Jayesh Sanghrajka and Executive Vice President Sunil Kumar Dhareshwar, joined government officials to celebrate the milestone. By investing in this campus, Infosys is doubling down on its commitment to help Punjab become a major hub for technology and innovation.

Key Highlights: A Smarter, Greener Way to Build

Smart Lighting: Uses sensors to track natural sunlight and automatically dims LEDs; lights turn off automatically in empty rooms to save power.

Radiant Cooling: Cools the building by circulating chilled water through floors and ceilings, which is quieter and more efficient than traditional AC.

Zone Controls: Allows different teams to adjust the temperature in their specific area rather than cooling the whole floor.

Water Recycling: A high-tech filtration system recycles 100% of wastewater for use in gardening and cooling.

Natural Cooling: Extensive landscaping helps lower the temperature, fighting the "heat-island effect" where concrete traps heat.

Modular Construction: Built using pre-made parts (like Lego blocks) to ensure almost zero construction waste.

Currently, the Mohali office houses nearly 1,000 employees who support global clients in sectors like Banking, retail, and healthcare. By growing this campus, the company can better help businesses around the world use high-tech digital tools and artificial intelligence to improve their operations on a much larger scale.
