Logistics-ltd-100003">Tata Elxsi shares jumped 6.51 per cent in afternoon trade on October 14 after the company reported a stronger second quarter, with double-digit revenue and profit growth, improving margins and broad-based business momentum lifting investor sentiment.
Tata Elxsi shares were firmly in the spotlight on Wednesday after the design and technology services company delivered a better second-quarter performance.
At 12:46 pm IST on October 14, the stock was trading at Rs 3,649.80, up 6.51 per cent, or Rs 223.10, from the previous close of Rs 3,426.70. The stock had touched an Intraday high of Rs 3,710, showing that buying interest remained strong through the session.
The move came after Tata Elxsi announced its Q2 FY27 results on Tuesday evening, giving investors a fresh set of numbers to assess after a relatively difficult period for the IT and engineering services space.
Revenue Growth Picks Up
Tata Elxsi reported revenue from operations of Rs 1,055.7 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, up 15 per cent year-on-year and 3.4 per cent sequentially.

Download Service BrochureOn a constant-currency basis, revenue increased 7.8 per cent year-on-year and 2.3 per cent sequentially.
That sequential growth is particularly important because the company had already delivered revenue growth in the June quarter. The latest numbers indicate that momentum continued into the second quarter rather than fading after the first-quarter improvement.
Profit Rises 10 Per Cent
Tata Elxsi's net profit increased 10 per cent year-on-year to Rs 170.3 crore, compared with Rs 154.8 crore in Q2 FY26.
However, the quarter was not a straight-line improvement on a sequential basis. Profit was almost flat compared with the Rs 170.6 crore reported in Q1 FY27.
This is an important distinction. The stock's positive reaction is not simply about a large jump in quarterly profit. Investors are also responding to the combination of revenue growth, stronger operating performance and improving margins.
Margins Deliver a Pleasant Surprise
EBITDA increased 19.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 231.4 crore, while the EBITDA margin expanded to 21.9 per cent.
Sequentially, the margin improved by 70 basis points, despite salary revisions being implemented across the employee base during the quarter.
EBIT rose 7.2 per cent sequentially to Rs 207.8 crore, while the EBIT margin improved to 19.7 per cent from 19 per cent in Q1 FY27.
For a company operating in a people-intensive technology services business, the ability to expand margins while absorbing higher employee costs is an important positive.
All Three Key Verticals Move Higher
The transportation business grew 2 per cent sequentially in constant-currency terms. This remains Tata Elxsi's largest vertical, accounting for more than 55 per cent of its Software Development and Services segment.
The Media and Communications business grew 3.4 per cent sequentially, while Healthcare and Life Sciences increased 3.5 per cent on the same basis.
This matters because the company's growth is not being driven by one isolated business. The improvement across its three key verticals gives investors a broader base to work with.
New Deals Strengthen the Growth Story
The company secured a multi-year programme from a leading automotive OEM for a cloud-based telematics and connected-vehicle ecosystem. That is significant for its transportation business as automakers continue investing in connected and software-defined vehicles.
In Media and Communications, the company won a strategic AI engagement from a global technology company to develop a generative AI-based virtual assistant focused on multilingual intelligence and digital experiences.
The healthcare business also won a product engineering mandate from a global renal-care company for a next-generation home dialysis system, covering areas including electronics, embedded systems, UX and regulatory compliance.
These wins add some substance to the company's growth outlook because they cover areas where spending on technology and product engineering remains relevant.
AI Remains Part of the Larger Strategy
Tata Elxsi is also pushing deeper into AI-led engineering rather than treating AI as a standalone technology theme.
During September, the company made an early-stage investment in KAVIA AI, extending a partnership that began in 2025. The company is using the relationship to strengthen its capabilities around AI-driven software engineering.
It has also been expanding its work in Aerospace. Its partnership with Sarla Aviation involves supporting the development of Shunya, an indigenous electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
These initiatives are still developing businesses rather than immediate large revenue contributors, but they show where Tata Elxsi is trying to build its next set of opportunities.
Why Are Tata Elxsi Shares Rising?
Revenue growth accelerated, profit increased 10 per cent year-on-year, EBITDA grew nearly 20 per cent and margins expanded despite wage hikes. At the same time, all three major verticals delivered sequential growth and the company reported fresh deals across automotive, AI and healthcare.
There is also a sector-wide factor at play. IT stocks have been under pressure for much of the year amid concerns around global technology spending and the impact of AI on traditional services. The strong response to Tata Elxsi's numbers suggests investors are willing to reward evidence of improving execution.
The stock also benefited from the broader rebound in IT shares following strong results from HCLTech, which helped lift the sector's sentiment. The Nifty IT index was among the better-performing sectoral indices in the previous session.
Risks Have Not Disappeared
Profit was almost unchanged sequentially, while other income declined during the quarter. The company also continues to operate in a challenging global environment, particularly across automotive and technology spending.
Brokerage views have also remained mixed. While some analysts have turned more positive following the results, concerns around valuation and the pace of future earnings growth remain.
The stock was trading well below its 52-week high of Rs 5,950, according to market data, but its valuation remains an important consideration after the recent rebound.
For now, investors appear to be looking past the sequentially flat profit and focusing instead on the broader picture, 15 per cent revenue growth, stronger operating margins, healthy vertical performance and a pipeline of new technology-led engagements.
That combination has given Tata Elxsi shares a strong start to Wednesday's session. The bigger question now is whether the company can maintain this operating momentum through the second half of FY27.
