The electric two-wheeler maker unveiled the Konarc at its annual Community Day held on August 29. The launch broadens Ather's presence beyond its existing 450 and Rizta portfolios and gives the company a product positioned for a wider set of mainstream electric scooter buyers.

Konarc Starts at Rs 99,999
Ather has introduced the Konarc in multiple range configurations. The 100-km version carries a starting price of Rs 99,999, while the 125-km variant has been priced at Rs 1,21,999. Both versions are scheduled to go on sale in September 2026. The company has also lined up a 161-km version at Rs 1,44,999, extending the model into a higher-range configuration.

Ather's plans for the Konarc family go beyond the initial launch. A 200-km version is slated for the third quarter of 2027, while the Konarc Z is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027 with 125-km and 161-km range options.

The roadmap indicates that Ather intends to use the Konarc name across several price and range points rather than restricting it to a single model.

New EL Platform Forms the Base
A key part of the launch is the architecture underneath the scooter. The Konarc is the first production model to use Ather's new-generation EL platform. The company has developed the platform with a focus on flexibility, scalability and manufacturing efficiency, allowing it to support products across different segments.

The EL architecture was first showcased at Ather Community Day in 2025 and represents the company's first completely new vehicle platform since the 450 architecture. At the same event, Ather had also presented the Redux concept vehicle, next-generation fast-charging technology and AtherStack 7.0. By using a common architecture across future models, Ather expects the EL platform to help it address a broader market while supporting its expansion into higher-volume categories.

Ather Takes Aim at a Broader Customer Base
The Konarc also marks a change in product positioning for Ather. While the 450 range has been built around a sportier proposition, the new scooter follows a more conventional and family-oriented approach. This brings Ather into closer competition with established mass-market electric scooters such as the TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak C2501.

At Rs 99,999, the entry-level Konarc is priced close to the lower end of this segment. The 125-km model at Rs 1,21,999 is also positioned near Ather's own entry-level Rizta S, which starts at Rs 1,21,499.

On range, the 100-km Konarc sits below the 113-km figure cited for the Chetak C2501 and the 114-km range of the entry-level iQube. Ather's higher-range Konarc versions are intended to broaden the offering further as the product family develops.

Mass-Market Push Takes Shape
Ather CEO and co-founder Tarun Mehta had earlier indicated that the company was preparing to introduce a mass-market scooter as India's electric two-wheeler industry moves beyond the early-adopter phase. According to Mehta, the requirements of electric scooter buyers are also widening. Beyond technology, customers increasingly evaluate factors such as pricing, resale value, service time, comfort, ease of charging and safety.

The Konarc launch reflects that shift in Ather's strategy. Instead of focusing only on relatively premium electric scooters, the company is now adding a product architecture and model range intended to address larger-volume segments.

With more Konarc variants already planned through 2027, the launch marks the beginning of a broader product rollout based on the EL platform rather than a standalone addition to Ather's portfolio.
