Healthcare Stock In Focus! Rainbow Children’s Signs Land Deal For Major New Hospital Project
Rainbow Children’s Medicare has signed a 60-year lease with APCRDA for land in Amaravati, where it plans to develop a 250-bed super-speciality children’s hospital and perinatal care facility in phases.
✨ Key Takeaways
Rainbow Children’s Medicare Ltd has taken a step towards expanding its Andhra Pradesh footprint after entering into a 60-year lease agreement with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority for around two acres of land in Amaravati.
The company proposes to develop a 250-bed super-speciality children’s hospital and perinatal care facility on the site. The project will be developed in phases, although Rainbow has not disclosed the expected commissioning timeline, capital expenditure, lease rental or funding structure. It said it would keep stock exchanges informed about progress.
The proposed facility would be a sizeable addition to Rainbow’s network. As of its June 2026 investor presentation, the specialised women’s and children’s healthcare chain had a capacity of 2,565 beds across 24 hospitals and five clinics. At full scale, the Amaravati project would represent nearly 10 per cent of that capacity base, based on the company’s disclosed network figure.
The development also fits Rainbow’s strategy of building connected regional hospital clusters rather than operating isolated facilities. Its network already includes hospitals in Andhra Pradesh at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry, with the company reporting 359 beds in the state in its latest presentation. Amaravati could strengthen its access to the Andhra Pradesh capital region, where the proposed facility is expected to combine paediatric tertiary care with maternity and perinatal services.
Rainbow’s core operating model is built around children’s hospitals, neonatal and paediatric intensive care, and BirthRight-branded women’s and perinatal services. The company has been pursuing a hub-and-spoke strategy, with larger centres providing tertiary and quaternary care and smaller facilities supporting referrals and local access.
The Amaravati land lease comes as Rainbow continues to pursue a large capacity expansion programme. In its June-quarter presentation, management outlined a roadmap to increase capacity from 2,565 beds to about 3,725 beds by FY29 through projects in Bengaluru, Coimbatore, Gurugram, Mumbai, Nellore, Guntur, Indore and Pune. The Amaravati project was not separately detailed in that roadmap, and its eventual opening date remains to be announced.

Download Service BrochureThe company’s expansion is being supported by growing operating activity, although new facilities also require time to reach mature utilisation levels. In the June 2026 quarter, net sales rose 33.17 per cent year-on-year to Rs 469.99 crore, while profit after Tax increased 16.23 per cent to Rs 62.54 crore. However, PAT margin narrowed to 13.31 per cent from 15.25 per cent a year earlier, reflecting the cost of a larger and still-ramping hospital base.
Rainbow’s mature hospitals reported higher occupancy and average revenue per occupied bed than newer facilities during the quarter, underlining the importance of execution and utilisation for proposed greenfield projects. The Amaravati development will therefore be watched for Construction progress, staffing plans and the pace at which patient volumes can be built after commissioning.
As of 2:40 pm on September 30, 2026, Rainbow Children’s Medicare shares were trading at Rs 1,324, down 3.24 per cent from the previous close. The stock was about 17.1 per cent below its 52-week high of Rs 1,597.65, while its one-year decline of 5.56 per cent was weaker than the BSE 500’s 3.07 per cent decline over the comparable period.
