Bharat Forge Signs MoU For Marine Gas Turbine Facility

Bharat Forge informed exchanges that the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine (MGT) Repair, Overhaul and indigenous Development complex at Visakhapatnam through its aerospace business division.

According to the company, the facility will be developed across approximately 80 acres within the Andhra Pradesh Defence Manufacturing Corridor and will be co-located with the Naval Dockyard, INS Eksila and Eastern Naval Command Headquarters.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu during the Aerospace and Defence Investment Conclave held at Puttaparthy.

Project Details

The company stated that Phase 1 of the project will include a full Marine Gas Turbine repair and overhaul complex comprising hot section restoration of blades, vanes and combustion liners, component manufacturing facilities, non-destructive examination laboratory and a 72-hour turnaround capability for the Naval Dockyard at Visakhapatnam.

Phase 2 will include establishment of India’s first private-sector Marine Gas Turbine development and assembly hall along with a full-spectrum hot test cell scalable across propulsion ratings. The company also stated that the project would support development and qualification of an indigenous marine gas turbine in India.

Bharat Forge added that the facility is expected to serve as a regional repair and overhaul hub for friendly nation navies and create around 750 direct and indirect employment opportunities.
