Jupiter Wagons Ltd has emerged as the successful bidder for two standalone BESS projects conducted by West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL). The projects are located at Jeerat and Kharagpur and were secured through e-reverse auctions under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding mechanism. The projects will be executed and operated through Jupiter Electric Mobility, a subsidiary of Jupiter Wagons.
The projects involve the supply and commissioning of BESS systems worth approximately Rs 400 crore and will operate under a 15-year Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model with WBSEDCL. According to the company, the long-term operating model is expected to provide enhanced revenue visibility while strengthening its presence in India's energy storage market.

Following the latest wins, Jupiter Electric Mobility's BESS order book has increased to approximately 500 MWh, valued at more than Rs 500 crore, including Commercial and Industrial projects. The company is targeting a BESS order book of approximately Rs 1,000 crore by FY27 as it expands its presence in India's energy storage market.
Commenting on the development, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, said the successful bids mark an important milestone for the company and its subsidiary as they build a scalable energy storage business. He highlighted the company's ambition to build a Rs 1,000 crore BESS order book and participate in utility-scale and commercial energy storage opportunities.

The company said the development strengthens its presence in the energy transition ecosystem and supports its strategy of expanding into high-growth businesses beyond its traditional railway and mobility operations. The projects are also expected to provide Jupiter Electric Mobility with a stronger platform to pursue further utility-scale and Commercial and Industrial opportunities across India.
