Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) has informed stock exchanges that the board of its Japan-based associate, Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. (MAM), has approved a strategic decision to withdraw from the agricultural machinery business. The withdrawal covers research and development, production, and both domestic and international sales of agricultural machinery. MAM plans to cease these operations by the first half of fiscal year 2027.

Rationale and Financial Impact

The decision comes after a period of sustained losses despite several structural reforms undertaken to restore profitability. A comprehensive review by MAM concluded that the long-term viability and financial sustainability of the business were uncertain due to shifting industry conditions and changing demand structures.

For the financial year ended March 31, 2025, MAM reported revenue of Rs 2,094.17 crore, contributing 1.13 per cent to the Mahindra Group’s consolidated turnover. The company reported a negative net worth of Rs (17.74) crore and a loss after Tax of Rs 227.42 crore.
